Padraig Harrington (67-277): "I never let myself think I had blown the Open. If I had lost I would have struggled to come back out and be a professional golfer. It meant that much to me. It would have been incredibly hard to take. The 18th is the toughest finishing hole in golf. There's trouble everywhere you look. I knew it was going to be tough for Sergio to make par. He did hit a lovely putt and I thought he had holed it. It's going to take a long time for it to settle in. There was so much going through my mind, some of it was genuine shock I had won the Open Championship. It's going to mean a lot for Irish golf. We celebrate all our sporting achievements, we're a great country for anyone who does well. I'm very proud of the support I get at home. Far more people have more belief in me than I have in myself."
Sergio Garcia (73-277): "I still don't know how that putt missed. It's tough because I don't feel like I did anything wrong. I didn't miss a shot in the play-off, I hit unbelievable putts that just did not want to go in. That's the way it goes. I have to move on and take the positives out of it. I guess it was just not meant to be."
Andres Romero (67-278): "I hit a very bad second shot at 17 and I also had a lot of very bad luck when I ricocheted it off the burn and out of bounds. I was aware I was leading. I hit a two iron as a second shot. I wasn't certain of what club I wanted to play, perhaps that was my mistake. I thought I had a chance to get it on the green. I was thinking of hitting a three wood and should have stuck with my initial thought and hit it with a three wood. I didn't and that was the result. I never considered playing safe. The second time round I hit it the way I should have, with the right club. I then hit a great drive on 18, I hit a poor second shot, but in spite of it all I'm delighted."
Ernie Els (69-279): "I think 13 was the shot that cost me the tournament. I really had a nice start and was hitting the ball nicely, but just around the turn I lost momentum. At 11 I thought I made that putt, but the ball didn't turn, on 13 it just came up short and I made bogey. I put it in the worst spot of the week on 14. I had a beautiful second shot in there and just never got on the line. I really needed that putt. I missed the fairway on 15 and made bogey. The holes coming in are so tough."
Tiger Woods (70-282): "I hit marginal shots most of the week, I could not get it close enough to the hole to make enough putts. I had a chance even though I didn't have my ball striking where I needed it to be. I hung around but I was not as sharp as I needed to be win a major championship."
Richard Green (64-279): "I played great golf, as simple as that. I knew about the 63 and that a par on the last would get the job done. There was a bit of pressure on the last tee shot and I hit a fairly good shot, just a yard left of where I was aiming. The end of this course is very demanding, anything can happen. I will have to wait and see, you never know what might happen."
Ben Curtis (65-281): "The last three years have been disappointing for me here. This year my main goal was to make the cut and then after you obviously want to play well and get into contention. I didn't think I had a round like that in me. I have been driving it fairly well but my irons have been pretty poor but today I did a shortened warm-up and just went out there and played to see what would happen. Whether it was five over or five under - who cares? It was just one of those days where I made a couple of long putts which got things going my way."
Rory McIlroy (72-289): "It's been a great experience for me, it's just been awesome. I've fed off the crowds and the atmosphere all week and hopefully I'll be back next year. If I can progress over the next few years, keep improving, I certainly think I can be contending for an Open in the future. I think I'm getting better all the time. I think it's been a great performance at my first major, first Open Championship, and I can go onto bigger and better things."
Luke Donald (78-297): "My chipping was miserable, to say the least. I felt my short game was not very good at all. I didn't really hit the ball badly, but I just didn't score."
