| Johnson set the tone for what could be a surprise year in the majors by winning the US Masters at Augusta this April. Showing that brains could defeat brawn, Johnson laid up on every par five that week and yet played them in 11 under par thanks to his brilliant short game. He followed that deserved success with another victory in the AT&T Classic the following month and, although he finished down in 45th in the US Open, he remains one of the players of the year so far. He hasn't shown much aptitude for links golf though. This is his fourth visit to the Open and he's yet to make the weekend following missed cuts at Hoylake, St Andrews and Troon. |
