| Westwood coped better than most at Carnoustie last time, finishing tied 18th. That is actually his third best performance in an Open with only his two results at Troon (10th in 1997 and 4th in 2004) topping it. Westwood has blown hot and cold in his career but he's on an upward curve again in 2007 and has a victory under his belt after capturing the Open de Andalucia in May. Tied 30th at Augusta and tied 36th at Oakmont, Westwood has also performed solidly in the majors and he may just be a decent each-way bet here. The Englishman won the Dunhill Links (played at Carnoustie, St Andrews and Kingsbarns) in 2003 and has finished fifth, seventh and eighth in the three years since. If he can make the putts, and it remains a big 'if', he could be a real contender. |
