OPEN PROFILE
Some might say Poulter's trousers have drawn more attention than his golf in recent Opens although that is a little harsh. True, he missed the cut last year but prior to that he'd improved his finish each time, culminating in an 11th place at St Andrews in 2005. Another plus, not of the fours variety, is the 65 he shot at Carnoustie in the 2004 Dunhill Links. The flamboyant Englishman has played a lot of good golf in recent majors and it's a sign of his ambition that top 15s are seen as disappointments. If he could get into the thick of contention - and his recent form suggests this is likely - Poulter has the self-belief to see it through and end Europe's eight-year wait for a major winner.
