| OPEN PROFILE |

| It's a dangerous policy to say that Monty's chances of winning a major have gone. It was being said long before he finished second to Tiger Woods in the 2005 Open at St Andrews and repeated many times after that before he went so close in the 2006 US Open. Ironically, the Open used to be an annual source of frustration for Monty who managed just one top 20 during his seven-year reign as Europe's number one. But, as well as his second place at St Andrews, he also led the 2001 Open at Lytham after 36 holes so in more recent times he's looked a more likely winner. His victory at the K Club earlier this month - which saw Monty surpass Nick Faldo's record of 30 Euro tour wins - was a massive confidence boost and with huge support from the Scottish crowds a fairytale win isn't beyond the realms of possibility. |
