| There are those who immediately strike a line through Mickelson's name when contemplating a bet on the Open. But is the left-hander really a no-hoper in this event? Just one top ten in 14 starts would seem to suggest that he's not got the game for links golf courses. However, his third place at Troon in 2004 when just one shot out of a play-off has given Mickelson the belief that he can get his hands on the Claret Jug. Lefty has had a mixed 2007 so far. He produced brilliant performances to win at Pebble Beach (a seaside course it should be noted) and the Players Championship but poor driving and an injured wrist have led to two disappointing performances in the Majors. Mickelson missed the cut at Carnoustie in 1999 but his performance at Loch Lomond means he goes there with much more confidence this time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
