| The quiet South African has matched compatriot Ernie Els' two US Open wins but never really come close to emulating the Big Easy's Open triumph. Nevertheless his record in the Open is still one of high-level consistency. He can boast six finishes between 5th and 10th and in the last 10 years he's made the top 15 on eight occasions. That includes a tied 10th at Carnoustie which, at that point, matched his career-best finish in a major. Goosen's form in 2007 has been patchy and he missed the cut in the US Open at Oakmont. But prior to that he'd led the US Masters going into Amen Corner and eventually finished second to Zach Johnson. If he can finally get into contention over the final nine holes of an Open, Goosen has the nerve and steely determination to get the job done. |
