| OPEN PROFILE |
 |
| The man with the loopy swing has a rather loopy Open record too. Between 1997 and 1999 he finished fourth at Troon and Royal Birkdale and 10th here at Carnoustie but from 2001 to 2005 he missed five successive cuts. Furyk explained the confusion last year when revealing that a low ball flight had helped him in his first few Opens but he'd then changed his game to hit a higher ball to achieve more success on his home US Tour. It had taken him time to adjust back again but he did so successfully last year when finishing fourth at Hoylake. Furyk's only major so far is the 2003 US Open but he could so easily have added two more of those to his CV. He was just one shot back last year and again missed out by a single stroke at Oakmont last month after bogeying the 17th hole when trying to drive the green. A serious contender to give the US yet another Open win. |
